Seven Hidden Beaches in Gran Canaria Only The Locals Know About

27 / 11 / 2017

No doubt you know Gran Canaria for its two most famous beaches Playa del Inglés and the Maspalomas beach with its dunes in the back.

While those two beaches are fabulous for your holidays, and probably close to your hotel, the island offers more than 80 beaches to relax in front of the atlantic ocean and taking a cooling bath.

Of course, not all of them have sandy beaches. But if you love more natural places with less people around, we can help you.

Here are seven beaches in Gran Canaria for a relaxing day

7. Playa de Sardina del Norte

Surprise, surprise, there are beautiful beaches in the north of the island. And one of them is Playa de Sardina del Norte. Not many tourists find their way to this beach, as the way towards it needs some geographical skills.

OR better said, you need to know how to read a map. Besides a sandy beach, you can have yummy lunch or dinner at the restaurant at the end of the beach.

6. Playa de Veneguera

A walk through a valley guides you to this secret beach in Gran Canaria. Half stone, half sandy it’s an awesome place for being alone a day, enjoying the sun and the sound of the waves. Best of it, it’s close to Mogán.

But...the walking time until you reach the beach walking through the valley will be around 2 hours. Needless to say you should wear proper footwear and carry some water with you. Anyway you will totally enjoy this day.

5. Playa del Puerto

Once you head to La Aldea de San Nicolas, park you car and take the path up the hill. On the other side, you just follow the coastline until you reach Playa del Puerto.

The way towards the beach isn’t that hard, so go for it and enjoy the secret beach even most locals don’t know about.

4. Playa de San Felipe

We’re heading back to the north of Gran Canaria. The north coast is spectacular. But even though it’s usually quote dangerous to jump into the ocean here, you can still enjoy the wilder environment on some of the north coast beaches.

The beach Playa de San Felipe has a length of 450 meters. So you will for sure have your own silent space in front of the atlantic ocean.

3. Playa de Guayedra

One of the beaches close to Agaete. And one of the beaches in Gran Canaria where you might be alone all day long. Park your car and walk down for around 15 minutes to get to this beach. On good days, you can see Teneriffe from here, accompanied by nothing but blue around you.

Take care when you want to take a cooling bath. It may be dangerous to swim around. The waves here are very powerful, and there’s no lifeguard.

2. Playa del Juncal

One of the best kept secrets of Gran Canaria. Only few people find their way to Playa del Juncal. Including the locals. You have to find you way through a huge area of tomato plantations and you should have a good car as there’s no real road.

But once you reached the beach, you will for sure know that all the effort was worth it.

1. Playa del Confital

You might know the capital of Gran Canaria, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. And you might even have spend a days or more inside the city to discover its beauty. Of course you also know the Las Canteras beach, considered on of the most beautiful city beaches of the planet. But...El Confital is something you probably never heard of.

El Confital is the area north of the city where you can enjoy the sun, take a bath, or walk halfway around the peninsula. During low tide, little natural pools between the rocks appear for a refreshing bath surrounded by a postcard scenery and a stunning view over the capital.
